Henry Dashwood is the father ๐Ÿง“ of Elinor, Marianne and Margaret and their half-brother John Dashwood. They live in Norland Park in Sussex, England ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ. This property ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ which was owned by their wealthy uncle was handed over to John Dashwood and later his little son ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿผ. The daughters and Henry’s present wife are left without fortunes.

Henry Dies โšฐ๏ธ

Henry who was ill ๐Ÿค’ asks his son John to promise ๐Ÿค that he will take care of his half-sisters and his step-mother. He dies but John fails to keep up his word ๐Ÿ‘Ž as his selfish wife Fanny prevents him from helping them. Fanny prevents John from giving 3000 ๐Ÿ’ถ pounds for each member as she believed her son would be deprived of money ๐Ÿ˜ถ. She also fills hatred in the mind of John saying that his father loved his half-sisters ๐Ÿ˜” much more than he cared for John, refreshing his forgotten thoughts ๐Ÿ˜.

To Barton Park

Mrs. Dashwood, who dislikes ๐Ÿ™ Fanny, decides to move to Barton Park ๐Ÿก, a property owned by the relative of Mrs. Dashwood as per his invitation โœ‰๏ธ. She decides so as Fanny complains ๐Ÿ˜ฌ about Elinor of trapping her brother, Edward Ferrars in her web of love ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ. Fanny accuses ๐Ÿคฌ her for being in the company of his brother for his money ๐Ÿ’ธ. Mrs. Dashwood, upon hearing intolerant accusations, decides to leave Norland Park ๐Ÿ›„.

The Dashwood sisters of ‘Sense and Sensibility’

Sir John Middleton welcomes ๐Ÿ˜Š Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters. They often meet at balls ๐Ÿพ and dinners ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ. They also befriended Lady Middleton and her gossiping mother ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Mrs. Jennings. Another frequent visitor is Colonel Brandon ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ, a 35 year old bachelor friend of Sir John Middleton, who seems to have fallen in love ๐Ÿฅฐ with Marianne. The sisters run back to their cottage after a walk as it begins to rain โ˜”. Marianne slips and falls down. Willoughby, who happens to passby ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ sees this and carries her home. He introduces himself ๐Ÿคand is frequently visits Marianne. They share good times together sharing their opinions on art ๐ŸŽจ, music ๐ŸŽผ and literature ๐Ÿ“. They grow so much close ๐Ÿ’ to one another, exchange letters ๐Ÿ’Œ and even a lock of her hair which makes Elinor believe that they are engaged ๐Ÿค”.

“Their taste was strikingly alike. The same books, the same passages were idolized by eachโ€”or if any difference appeared, any objection arose, it lasted no longer than till the force of her arguments and the brightness of her eyes could be displayed. He acquiesced in all her decisions, caught all her enthusiasm; and long before his visit concluded, they conversed with the familiarity of a long-established acquaintance”.

Marianne and Willoughby from the novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’

Colonel Brandon Leaves ๐Ÿงณ

Colonel Brandon who has decided to leave Barton Park for an expedition ๐ŸšŠ to his brother-in-law’s property had to cancel it and leave for London ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง after receiving a letter โœ‰๏ธ. Marrianne and Willoughby spend their time โŒš together. He takes Marrianne to his aunt’s property by a carriage ๐Ÿšœ. Willoughby informs her that the property ๐Ÿฏ will be owned by him and behaves like he has madly fallen in love ๐Ÿ˜ with her.

Why did Colonel Brandon leaves suddenly for an unplanned journey cancelling the planned visit? ๐Ÿค”

Willoughby Leaves ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Mrs. Dashwood and Elinor is suprised to see Willoughby’s carriage ๐Ÿšœ outside their cottage. They are even more surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and shocked ๐Ÿ˜ฒ seeing Marianne cry ๐Ÿ˜ข for Willoughby’s need to leave Barton Park. He informs them of his necessity ๐Ÿ™‚ to leave for London for his business affairs ๐Ÿ“Š. Marianne is extremely sad ๐Ÿ˜“ after Willoughby’s departure to London.

Edward Ferrars to Barton Park

Edward Ferrars, Fannyโ€™s brother has paid a ๐Ÿ˜Š visit to Barton Park. Marianne and Elinor see him after their return from a walk ๐Ÿ‘ญ. But, he does not seem to be happy ๐Ÿ˜ถ to meet Elinor. Marianne also notices a ring ๐Ÿ’and a lock of hair in Edward’s hand. Edward says that it is Fannyโ€™s but it doesn’t sound believable ๐Ÿคจ for them as the hair resembles Elinor’s. It makes even Elinor believe ๐Ÿ˜Œ that he had gotten it from her secretly ๐Ÿคซ. Edward stays for a week and returns without proposing Elinor ๐Ÿ˜”. She is puzzled ๐Ÿ˜•.

The Palmers

Charlotte Palmer, Lady Middleton’s sister arrives with her husband ๐Ÿ‘ซ and they are also taken to the Dashwood’s cottage ๐Ÿก. The Palmers mistakes that Marianne is engaged ๐Ÿ™‚ to Willoughby, whom they knows. As soon as they leave, ๐Ÿš— the Steele sisters arrive. They are the relatives of Mrs. Jennings ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป. The Steele sisters: ๐Ÿ‘ญ Anne and Lucy, is not liked by the Dashwood sisters who boast ๐Ÿ’ค of their loving ๐Ÿ’• boyfriends all the time.

Lucy โค๏ธ Edward

Anne reveals that Lucy is in love ๐Ÿ˜ with Edward Ferrars. Lucy and Elinor goes for a walk ๐Ÿž๏ธ, Lucy enquires ๐Ÿคจ about the whereabouts of Edward’s mother. She also says that they have been secretly engaged ๐Ÿคซ for almost four years. They fear ๐Ÿ™„ of the disapproval of Mrs. Ferrars as she is deprived of fortunes ๐Ÿ˜ž. She shows a letter ๐Ÿ“„ from Edward to Elinor and says that his ring ๐Ÿ’ has a lock of her hair. She says that they will have to wait ๐Ÿ˜ž for the death of Mrs. Ferrars to get married ๐Ÿ‘ฐ.

Elinor Feels Deceived ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Elinor feels that she has been deceived and Edward has played with her affection for him. Later, she refuses to join Mrs. Jennings to London ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง as she thinks he might be there. But, Marianne insists ๐Ÿ˜š on going to London as she can meet Willoughby. They move to London leaving Margaret, their little sister and mother in Barton Park.

In London

They reach London but Marianne is unable to meet Willoughby โ˜น๏ธ. She writes but everything is left unanswered ๐Ÿ˜ž. They attend many social events ๐Ÿ•๏ธ and gatherings ๐ŸŸ๏ธ in hope of meeting him. Watching Marianne in despair, Elinor writes โœ๏ธ her mother to ask about whether they are engaged or not.

“For though a very few hours spent in hard labour of incessant talking will dispatch more subjects than can really be in common between any two rational creatures, yet with lovers it is different. Between them no subject is finished, no communication is even made, till it has been made at least twenty times over”.

Marianne is Depressed ๐Ÿ˜ž

Marianne finally meets Willoughby โ˜บ๏ธ in an event ๐ŸŽˆ which she attends with Lady Middleton. She is ignored ๐Ÿ˜ by him as she tries to approach him ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Sadly, she leaves the party ๐ŸŽ‰. She receives a letter ๐Ÿ“ƒ from Willoughby the next morning ๐ŸŒ„. His revelation has made her more depressed ๐Ÿ˜ž. He openly reveals that he has no love ๐Ÿ˜ถ for her and he is engaged ๐Ÿ’ to the wealthy Miss Grey ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. This shocks her and any attempt by Elinor to reduce her pain ๐Ÿ˜” goes in vain ๐Ÿ˜ž.

“You may marry Miss Grey for her fifteen pounds but you will always be my Willoughby. My nightmare. My sorrow. My past. My mistake. My regret. My love”.

Colonel Brandon’s Revelation

Colonel Brandon visits Marianne knowing about her depressed ๐Ÿ˜ฉ state after being deceived by Willoughby. He makes certain revelations about ๐Ÿ™‚ him. He reveals the reason behind his sudden journey to London. His ward named Eliza was impregnated ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ by Willoughby and then abandoned ๐Ÿ˜– by him.

He also reveals his past ๐Ÿ™ƒโ€ฆ Her mother Eliza was his lover ๐Ÿฅฐ but she was married to her brother by force ๐Ÿ˜‘ after Colonel Brandon had to serve in the military โš”. The relationship didn’t last long, they were separated ๐Ÿ’ฅ. She had then been seduced by other men ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ’‹โ€๐Ÿ‘จ, and gave birth to an illegitimate daughter ๐Ÿคฑ. He could return only when she was in her deathbed ๐Ÿ›๏ธ, immersed in poverty ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. It was he, who then guarded ๐Ÿค— her baby also named Eliza ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

Colonel Brandon and Elinor: Friends ๐Ÿค

Elinor is happy โ˜บ๏ธ that he has come to meet her and unmasked ๐ŸŽญ Willoughby. She says about this to Marianne but she finds of no use. She is depressed ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ as she was and nothing has changed other than knowing the real Willoughby ๐Ÿ˜“. As gossiping Mrs. Jennings see Elinor and Colonel Brandon together, she predicts ๐Ÿ˜Œ that he has fallen in love with Elinor and will soon propose her ๐Ÿคญ.

Dinner with Mrs. Ferrars ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ๐Ÿท

Marianne is taken out by Elinor after a long persuasion ๐Ÿ˜Š. They go to a jeweler and meets a gentleman who orders for a ๐Ÿฆท golden โญ toothpick case which was Robert Ferrars, Edward’s brother ๐Ÿ‘ฌ. In between, Elinor meets her brother. He pays a visit to โ˜บ๏ธ them the next day. He reveal of Edward’s marriage with a wealthy ๐Ÿ’ฐ woman named Miss Morton as per the arrangements of Mrs. Ferrars. They are all been called for the dinner ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿด arranged by her. The Steele sisters are also invited. Lucy is anxious ๐Ÿ˜ฏ to meet her future mother-in-law while Elinor is also happy โ˜บ๏ธ to meet her. At the dinner, Lucy is liked by Mrs. Ferrars while Elinor is not ๐Ÿ˜. Elinor then leaves for another party ๐ŸŽ‰ with her brother while Lucy is invited to stay with Mrs. Ferrars.

The Secret Engagement is now a Flash News ๐Ÿ“ฐ ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Two weeks after the party ๐ŸŽ‰, Mrs. Jennings inform Elinor that Lucy and Anne has been kicked out of Fannyโ€™s home ๐Ÿ˜ฎ when she came to know about the secret engagement ๐Ÿ˜ of Edward and Lucy. Edward has also been disinherited ๐Ÿ˜ฃ of all his fortunes by Mrs. Ferrars. But Elinor on her visit ๐Ÿ™‚ to Anne at Kennington Gardens come to know that they Lucy and Edward are moving forward to get married ๐Ÿค— after findimg a place to stay ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ. Lucy had not broken up ๐Ÿ˜š with Edward even though Edward had given her a chance.

Back to Barton Park

Elinor and Marianne decides to join their ๐Ÿค— family in Barton Park after a long two months time ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ. They bid bye to the Palmers. Later Colonel Brandon visits Elinor to say about his decision ๐Ÿ˜Š to help Edward on his terrible state ๐Ÿ˜”. He decides to offer his estate in Delaford ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ to him. Edward visits her as soon as he leaves and Elinor forwards the news ๐Ÿ—ž๏ธwhich makes him happy ๐Ÿ˜Œ. Her brother John also pays a visit and reveals that Edward’s fortunes ๐Ÿ’ธ will now be forwarded to Robert Ferrars who will also be marrying ๐Ÿคต๐Ÿผ Miss Morton.

Depressed Marianne in ‘Sense and Sensibility’

Marianne depressed falls ill ๐Ÿค’. Elinore is frightened ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ that her sister might die and calls for her mother. Colonel Brandon brings her mother ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆณ to the Palmers at Cleveland. She begins to recover then. Willoughby visits Elinor a day and confesses ๐Ÿ˜” that he was forced to marry Miss Grey as he was deprived of money ๐Ÿ’ท when his aunt came to know about his relationship ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ with Eliza. He loved Marianne ๐Ÿ˜ but could not marry her had no money. He didn’t even want to hurt her ๐Ÿ˜ช by the letter โœ‰, and reveals that the letter was actually written โœ๏ธ by him but dictated ๐Ÿ˜‘ by his wife. Willoughby curses ๐Ÿคฌ himself and apologises ๐Ÿ™, which Elinor grants.

Marianne, after her recovery shares with Elinor that she is now alright ๐Ÿ‘ has attained sense ๐Ÿง  to deal with the her emotions ๐Ÿ˜Œ and feelings for Willoughby. She feels herself a fool ๐Ÿ˜ฌ permitting him to deceive her. Elinor then reveals of Willoughby’s confession which she listens in peace ๐Ÿ™‚.

Edward Gets Married?

A servant then tells about the marriage of Edward and Lucy which upsets ๐Ÿ˜” Elinor. But she is later visited by Edward ๐Ÿง”๐Ÿป and reveals that he has broken up ๐Ÿ’” with her and she is married ๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคต๐Ÿผ to her brother Robert Ferrars, as he has inherited the wealth ๐Ÿ’ฐ. He says that his engagement with Lucy was something stupid ๐Ÿ˜ตdone when he was too young. Edward then proposes ๐Ÿ’ Elinor. She is happy โ˜บ๏ธwith tears in her eyes๐Ÿ’ง.

Meanwhile, Marianne changes her opinion about marriage and starts accepting and loving Colonel Brandon. They get married and live happily in adjacent homes. Mrs. Dashwood visits her happy daughters often.
